The NY2LA Sports Classic returned with a bang this past weekend as some of the top teams in the state of Wisconsin took to the hardwood for an exciting day of action.  With some of the best prospects in the country on the court the action throughout the day was exciting and the atmosphere was electric.  We begin our look back with a quick summary from each game that took place this past Saturday at Brookfield Central High School…

GAME 3
Nicolet 78 Sussex Hamilton 70

The much hyped showdown between arguably the top 2 teams in the state did not disappoint the capacity crowd in attendance.  It was a back and forth affair that saw Sussex Hamilton grab a 44-36 lead at the half thanks to stellar play from 2021 G/F Patrick Baldwin Jr. and sharpshooting from 2021 G Tanner Resch.  The second half flipped the script and 2020 G/F Jalen Johnson and 2020 F Jamari Sibley were big reasons why.  Johnson really facilitated for most of the half and 2021 G Kobe Johnson and 2021 F James Graham III were the beneficiaries as they delivered some quality second half minutes with finishes, rebounding, etc.  Sibley spent the half putting together an elite defensive effort and the collective whole helped push Nicolet across the finish line to capture a 78-70 victory.

GAME 2
Brookfield Central 72 La Crosse Central 49

Solid defense and some excellent shooting by Brookfield Central really told the story in this one.  The teams battled to start the game with a bit of back and forth before 2021 G Ben Nau erupted from the perimeter by ripping the nets repeatedly to help Brookfield Central take a 34-26 lead at the half.  The second half was all the Lancers as the balance efforts of 2019 G Gage Malensek, 2019 G Cole Nau, and 2021 F David Joplin proved to be too much for a very talented La Crosse Central team and the Lancers rolled to a 72-49 win.

GAME 1
Homestead 79 Brown Deer 61

Brown Deer jumped out to an early lead in this one behind to scoring of senior guards Jaylon Gentry and Brooklyn Jagers.  2019 G Ryan Waddell and 2020 F Declan Ciurlik then took over for Homestead and the Highlanders grabbed a 44-34 lead at the half.  The second half saw Brown Deer make some min-runs as 2021 F Jeremiah Dotson got going but the Highlanders continued to create separation and seized control down the stretch thanks to a balanced attack that saw 2019 G Jacob Kleiman and 2019 F Michael Kennedy join Waddell and Ciurlik in pushing them to the finish line for a 79-61 win.
