The 2019 version of the NY2LA Sports Classic tipped off on Saturday at Brookfield Central High School. Fans got a chance to see 6 games and many of the top players from around Wisconsin were in action. While there were MVP’s for each game and some other standout performances here are a few players who might have flown under the radar but should be highlighted for their efforts.
2021 Brian Parzych – G- Wauwatosa East
Parzych was fresh off a valiant performance the night before against consensus #1 in the state Patrick Baldwin, and the back to back seemed to wear on him and the rest of the Red Raiders. Once he got going it was easy to see why some feel Parzych is the key to this squad with deep March tournament aspirations. They are loaded on the wing with John Lovelace and Leon Bond, but Parzych could be the piece that gets them over the hump. His passing and decision making were good Saturday as they fought to overcome a slow start vs. Homestead. Keep an eye on Parzych and the rest of the Red Raiders in Division 2.
2021 Carter Capstran – F – Franklin
Capstran was clutch for the Franklin Sabers in the nightcap. His 24 points were not enough but he showed off some versatility as he scored from the elbow and beyond. He rebounded well and did his part to keep Franklin in striking distance. Capstrans offensive game makes him a name to watch going forward.
2020 Jakai Davis – G – Menomonee Falls
While the two sophomores Seth Trimble and Steven Clay were delivering on their end, senior guard Jakai Davis was in the mix as well with a quality performance. His effort on both ends combined with his ability to fill the box score was a big part of the Falls winning effort on Saturday. He finished with 16 points 4 steals and 3 rebounds in a high quality performance.
2023 Mac Wrecke – G/F- Arrowhead
Wrecke played over 30 minutes for Arrowhead in their tough loss to Brookfield Central. Beyond that effort what stood out was his athleticism and relentless attacking of the rim. He is a high-level athlete for a frosh and his drives to the rim caught the attention of many in attendance. He has the chance to be a name we know quite well going forward.
2021 Jeremiah Dotson – F – Brown Deer
Dotson has the frame and tools to be an intriguing guy at the next level. His effort on Saturday in a loss was very strong as he showed excellent footwork with his back to the basket. The thing that stood out to me was his ability to bounce at the rim and glide along the baseline. That shows skills beyond the post and it’s easy to see how Dotson could play from both spots.
