Just a few days after being offered by the Georgetown Hoyas and head coach Patrick Ewing, Tyler Beard was ready to make his college decision. On Tuesday, the 6’2” senior point guard of Whitney Young High School in Chicago made his commitment to Ewing and the Hoyas.

On Tuesday afternoon Beard posted a video to twitter announcing his commitment to Georgetown. In the video, Beard first thanked multiple family members as well to his coaches and teammates. The senior finished the video stating “with that being said, next year I’ll be attending Georgetown University in Washington D.C., Hoyas I’m home.”

Over his high school career, Beard had received scholarship offers from Butler, DePaul, Florida Atlantic, Iowa, South Florida, UIC, and Virginia Tech. While fellow backcourt mate and Duke bound D.J. Steward gets much of the attention, Beard has been having a very strong senior season himself to attract new interest for himself from a few high major programs. Recently at the prestigious Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts, Beard put up 24 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds in a win versus Mount Vernon (NY).

Beard is the third commitment of Ewing and staffs 2020 recruitment class. Beard will be joining forward Jamari Sibley of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and point guard Dante Harris of Lakeway Christian Academy in Tennessee. There could be an opportunity for Beard to make an immediate impact for the Hoyas as starting guard and team leader in minutes, Jagan Mosley is a senior.
