One junior in Wisconsin that continues to fly a bit under the radar is Bennett McCormick. Even after a great year with JH1 Elite (now MTXE Premier) and a big start to the high school season at Catholic Memorial, the 6’3” wing guard only holds a single offer.
After his tremendous play during the spring and summer, McCormick earned himself second team honors on the NY2LA Association. Now during his junior season, he is leading his team with 16 points per game in addition to 5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1 steal per game to lead his team to a 7-2 record.
In June, Portland State of the Big Sky Conference offered McCormick a scholarship. When talking about the Oregon school, he said “I like the fact that Coach Coburn is new and building a program.” McCormick is looking forward to taking a visit west to Portland State in the future.
Some of the other programs interested in McCormick currently include Belmont, Miami (OH), Minnesota Duluth, South Dakota State, and Western Illinois.
McCormick is a tough guard with good strength that excels at attacking the basket. He is extremely difficult to defend going downhill to the basket with his ability to fight through contact and finish everything around the basket. He also has continued to develop as a perimeter shooter, as he is hitting 46.4% of his three point attempts this high school season. The junior is also a tough on ball defender that plays with good energy on the defensive side.
Look for the recruitment of McCormick to continue to grow over the next few months if he continues this high level of play.
