The Under Armour Summer Jam presented by NY2LA Sports continued on Thursday as pool play matchups were played throughout the day. The matchup of Cliff Alexander and the Mac Irvin Fire against Karl Towns and Sports U lived up to the hype while Team Thad 2015 wing Terrance Davis emerged as a player to be seen by high-major programs.
TOP PERFORMERS
Cliff Alexander -- 2014 -- PF -- Mac Irvin Fire
6'8 -- Curie H.S. -- Chicago, IL
In a buzzed-about head-to-head matchup with fellow top big man Karl Towns, Alexander displayed his raw power and athleticism with violent two-handed dunks, rebounds in traffic and even dropping in a three-pointer. Alexander does a good job of running the floor and staying active and relentlessly hunts dunks by using power moves.
Leroy Butts -- 2015 -- F -- D.C. Assault 16s
6'7 -- Bishop O'Connell -- Washington D.C.
Butts was very productive around the basket in a tight win over Team Thad on Thursday morning as he rebounded, scored around the hoop and made some athletic plays in transition. Leroy has some upside and solid size and it will be interesting to see how he develops.
Terrance Davis -- 2015 -- SF -- Team Thad 16s
6'5 -- Southaven H.S. -- Southaven, MS
It was fun to watch this high-energy wing do work on both ends of the floor as Davis defended hard, hit the glass from the wing and also did his best to get to the rim and score. Davis can also knock in perimeter shots at a high level and has good rotation on his perimeter jumper. I have a feeling high-majors will be tracking him in the very near future.
Rashard Kelly -- 2014 -- F -- D.C. Assault
6'6 -- Massanutten Military Academy -- Fredericksburg, VA
A physical specimen at 6'6, Kelly plays as an undersized forward and had perhaps the highlight of the day with a ferocious dunk in traffic in a win over Team Thad. Kelly has good strength for his size and works well out of the mid-post, especially when facing a smaller defender. Kelly uses his shoulders well in the post to carve out space and also rebounds well from the wing using his tremendous leaping ability.
Ray Smith -- 2015 -- SF -- Las Vegas Prospects 16s
6'6 -- Las Vegas H.S. -- Las Vegas, NV
The 2015 wing has been getting some buzz out west and in an overtime 8 a.m. win over Baltimore's Finest, Smith showed why. Smith can score the ball in a number of ways and did so with three-pointers, some drives to the basket and some above-the-rim finishes on the break. He has a smoothness about his game, but also plays hard on the defensive end, doing a nice job closing on jump shooters with his length.
Star Watch
Leron Black -- 2014 -- F -- Team Thad
6'8 --White Station H.S. -- Memphis, TN
It wasn't the best game from Black and Team Thad, but Leron was still active on the glass, used the power dribble well to create space for interior looks on offense and also roamed the baseline for a few mid-range jumpers.
Shaquile Carr -- 2014 -- PG -- Las Vegas Prospects
6'2 -- Canyon Springs H.S. -- North Las Vegas, NV
In an evenly matched contest with Team Superstar, the Prospects prevailed in large part to Carr and his ability to run a team and also make plays scoring or passing. Carr scored around the hoop in a few different ways and also looked to find teammates on the wing or under the basket.
Ahmaad Rorie -- 2014 -- PG -- Team Bradley NW Panthers
6' -- Lincoln H.S. -- Tacoma, WA
The Cal commit played a pretty solid floor game as a point guard and also used his strength to get to the basket while throwing in some mid-range jumpers. Rorie could stand to be a bit more consistent with his perimeter shot, but he handled point guard duties, defended with tight man-to-man defense and mixed in a scoring punch when needed.
Karl Towns -- 2014 -- C -- Sports U
7'0 -- St. Joseph's -- Metuchen, NJ
The Kentucky commit made some stellar plays in the matchup with Cliff Alexander and the Mac Irvin Fire. Towns opened the game with an incredible no-look pass from behind his head in the post to an open jump shooter and followed that up by displaying his tremendous skillset. Towns knocked in a jumper, had a patient right-handed hook over his left shoulder and also rebounded and defended in the post.
Romelo Trimble -- 2014 -- G -- D.C. Assault
6'2 -- Bishop O'Connell H.S. -- Arlington, VA
The Maryland commit continued his strong start to the Summer Jam as he scored it well off the bounce and knocked in jumpers off the catch. Although he primarily runs the point with D.C. Assault, Trimble is best suited off-the-ball, where he can help dribble into his shot, which is especially good off-the-dribble in the mid-range.
STOCK BOOSTERS
Adarius Avery -- 2015 -- SF -- Team Thad 16s
6-4 -- Arlington H.S. -- Arlington, TN
As part of a hard-playing Team Thad 16s group, Avery is a good athlete that plays well in transition, elevates quickly to rim level and defends and rebounds a bit from the wing as well. Avery is slippery with the ball in his hands as he attacks the rim and also works the baseline as well.
Daquan Bracey -- 2016 -- PG -- Baltimore's Finest 16s
5'11 -- St. Francis H.S. -- Dundack, MD
The first thing you notice about Bracey is his end-to-end speed as he carves up defenses in transition, but Bracey did a nice job getting to the rim and finishing, including a basket as time expired to put the game against the Las Vegas Prospects into overtime. He has a good feel for the game and the point guard position already at a young age and was productive playing up at the 16U level.
Terrone Parham -- 2014 -- SF -- Illinois Wolverines
6-5 -- Marian Catholic H.S. -- Chicago Heights, IL
Parhom played well in the final game of the night in an overtime loss to the Rockford Amabassadors and showed an ability to match shots from the perimeter while also getting to the rim and making plays off the of the dribble. Parham has good size on the wing and a bit of upside and has a knack for scoring.
James Walker Jr. -- 2017 -- SG -- Atlanta Xpress 16s
6'4 -- Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy -- Riverdale, GA
Playing up two grade levels, Walker displayed a high level of skill by knocking in jumpers, taking his defender off the dribble and also acting as a secondary handler. Being only an incoming freshman, Walker obviously has a lot of upside -- and with his ability to already score -- will be one to watch in the coming years.
D.J. Wilson -- 2014 -- SF -- Team Superstar
6'9 -- Capital Christian -- Sacramento, CA
By displaying a very good-looking perimeter jumper, Wilson quickly had scouts and coaches looking for more information. With great size and a quick trigger, Wilson is able to cleanly knock in three-pointers off-the-catch, while also displaying his touch in the post by using a turnaround jumper to score as well. With shooters always at a premium and with his size, Wilson will be one to track more in July.
