The annual NY2LA Sports Summer Jam continued on Friday as new schools stopped in and the new names delivered alongside the usual suspects including, but not limited to, Wisconsin bound Brad Davison who was electric during a solid morning win. Here’s a look at that and more from day 3 in Wisconsin…
SUMMER JAM FRIDAY TOP PERFORMERS
NOTE – LISTED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER
BRAD DAVISON – 2017 – PG – HOWARD PULLEY EYBL
Fresh off a commitment to play at Wisconsin, the 6’3 Maple Grove point guard shot the leather off the ball Friday morning against MBA Hoops. He finished with 33 points and, while he is virtually automatic if he catches the ball with his feet set and has some space, Davison also displayed the ability to put the ball on the deck and finish in the lane through traffic.
ARMAAN FRANKLIN – 2019 – G – INDIANA ELITE CENTRAL
Franklin has to be one of the best shooters in the 15-and-under Division at the Summer Jam, and was smoking for an 8 a.m. game Friday morning against the Iowa Barnstormers. The 6’2 Fishers combo guard has a picturesque release and finished with several buckets from the perimeter. Make no mistake, Franklin isn’t just a shooter – he was really effective driving both right and left and finishing at the hoop. He was also a willing defender. At this point in his high school career, Franklin has the tools to be a no-brainer mid-major DI recruit with the potential to go even bigger.
JACK HANSEN – 2018 – F – TEAM BLAZE SELECT
At 6’7, with long arms, Hansen (Guerin Catholic) is a skilled four man who displayed DI potential because of his ability to play inside as well as step out and knock down a three pointer. He came up with some big offensive rebounds as well during Team Blaze’s close win over Yander’s Law. As he continues to add strength, his recruitment should begin to pick up some steam.
MUSA JALLOW – 2018 – G/F – TEAM BLAZE SELECT
The Big Ten was well represented on the baselines of Court 6 and Jallow didn’t disappoint. The 6’5 athletic specimen from Bloomington North (IN) scored 19 points, and was a man among boys at times against Yanders Law dominating the paint by blocking shots and controlling the glass. He guarded all five positions on the court at various times during Team Blaze’s win. Jallow wants to end up as a perimeter player, so his handle and shooting will have to improve over the next two years but it seems clear he has high major potential. Currently Indiana, Vanderbilt, IUPUI and Toledo are his only offers.
TRE JONES – 2018 – PG – HOWARD PULLEY EYBL
Playing up an age level with Howard Pulley, Jones has already made his mark as a distributor and on-ball defender at the Summer Jam. However, on Friday against MBA Hoops, Jones (6’2, Apple Valley) flashed an improved shooting stroke. He was particularly more aggressive offensively than he has been all tourney and buried a few three-pointers and midrange jump-shots. He also found success attacking the rim and finishing layups. The high major prospect should continue to be one of the most highly coveted point guards in the Midwest and nation.
DEREK KROGMANN – 2019 – PF – IOWA BARNSTORMERS
Krogmann stood out Friday morning against Indiana Elite as his strong, 6’6 frame provided some toughness in the paint on both ends. The West Delaware HS post has long arms, and could still be growing. As it stands now, he is a productive rebounder with some advanced and strong post moves offensively in the paint. Krogmann came up with a few tough finishes through contact, and with plenty of time left in his high school career he will be a solid post to watch develop.
BRENNAN RYMER – 2017 – G – AUSA PLATINUM
The 6’1 Australian helped set the tone for a nice win over Dream Vision thanks to his two-way ability. He’s fast up and down the court with the ball in his hands, knocked down shots from the perimeter and also finished at the rim. His ball distribution ability is also attractive for a combo guard, and The Scots College product should be a DII, NAIA, low DI target at the very least.
ETHAN SCHUEMER – 2018 – F – MERCURY ELITE THOMAS
The Willowbrook High School 6’5 forward played up an age group and but that made no difference as he played real big in an upset win over MBA Hoops in the opening round of the Summer Jam playoffs. Schuemer scored a team-high 12 points and was also really effective on the glass in the win.
JORDAN WALTON – 2018 – G – YANDER’S LAW
Simply put, Walton has a cannon. The 6’ guard from Glendale HS (MO) is capable of snapping off several three-pointers in a row, and has been shooting the leather off the ball at the Summer Jam. On Friday, Walton also was able to put it on the deck and score on some floaters off the glass as well and finished with 25 points (4 three-pointers).
LACEY WATSON – 2018 – G – QUAD CITY ELITE
Rock Island’s Lacey Watson (6’4) continued to score at a torrid pace Friday at the Summer Jam. His 35 points lifted Quad City Elite over Kingdom Hoops in the first round of Platinum Division play. He scored in just about every way imaginable, including a handful of three-pointers. Watson currently holds offers from Kent State and Toledo, but if he continues to perform like he has the past couple weeks he should see that list of schools swell.
NICK WEATHERSPOON – 2017 – PG – MBA HOOPS
Weatherspoon is as physically impressive of a point guard prospect as you will find in the class of 2017, and is a big time recruit because of it. However, the 6’2 Velma Jackson point man has plenty of offensive skill to match his electric athleticism. On Friday against Howard Pulley, Weatherspoon was phenomenal in all facets and finished with 27 points (5 three-pointers), and plenty of nice dimes to teammates for open buckets.
