Mequon, WI – The NY2LA Sports SUMMER JAM is always loaded with talent and this year’s version was no different.  We focused on the 17U and 16U divisions on Thursday.  Here is a recap of who stood out, who boosted their stock, and who caught our eyes as Sleepers on the first day of wall to wall action.

DAY 1 STANDOUTS
2020 G Jaden Zackery – World Hoops Elite

Zackery picked up where he left off last week during the live period.  In a tough matchup vs Breakaway Basketball Zackery poured in 29 points while leading his team to a victory.  This guard can score and looks to be a name to watch.

2020 G Josh Stoltz –Closed Gyms
Stoltz was unconscious from deep on Thursday as he dropped 32 points to lead Closed Gyms to a win in the opener.   His shooting display included 4 3fgs in the first half alone.

2021 F Mike Foster Jr –Phenom University EYBL
Playing with Phenom and fellow top 5 prospect Baldwin, Foster fit in seamlessly while posting a double/double (12pts/12rebs) and showing the increased skill set that has the top programs in America all over him.   Foster is capable of playing on the block or on the wing, and the blue chip forward showed great awareness as a passer also on Thursday. He makes the Phenom Front line possible the best in the country.

2020 G Gerald Gittens –WI Rap
Gittens is fun to watch because he is under control and has the ball on a string.  His passing ability all over the court was evident as WI Rap continued their strong summer run.  He is big enough to take contact yet fast enough to get out in transition creating matchup nightmares for the opposition.

2021 G Rickey Bradley – Milwaukee Rebels
Bradley showed ability to get where he wanted off the bounce.  The young guard was in attack mode all night and had some tough finishes at the cup through contact on multiple occasions. The upside is there for this young wing.

2021 G George Kress – Pack Attack
Kress led Pack Attack to an opening win in the Summer Jam with 17 points. He was able to score at all levels and take the contact when driving to the rim.   Very impressive opener for Kress.

2021 G Pat Baldwin Jr – Phenom University EYBL
Teaming up with a new front court mate in Mike Foster Jr, Baldwin showed the skill that makes him so highly coveted helping Phenom to a blowout win.  He led the squad with 16 points and his range is always a problem for opposing defenses.

2021 F Scotty Ebube – Illinois Wolves
The burly post for the Wolves was too much to handle on Thursday posting 15 points and clearing space all night.  His motor around the rim is tough to match for players not his size and he had his way on Thursday.

DAY 1 STOCK BOOSTERS
2021 F Kevin Bozeman – Breakaway Basketball 2021

Bozeman had 19 points and 9 rebounds as the younger edition of Basketball rolled to a convincing victory on opening night.   This was a very impressive from the young forward who scored on multiple levels while playing up.

2021 G – Jeremiah Dotson - Phenom University EYBL 2021
Dotson was outstanding on Thursday night as he helped the 2021 edition to a win playing up.  He hit the offensive glass and did a great job of passing the ball on the interior as Phenom fought back and ultimately pulled out a close win.  It was one of the better efforts we saw all night from Dotson.

2021 F – Amar Aguillard – All In Gold Gauntlet
Aguillard was all over the place for All In.  He hit 3’s and was a force on the glass as he scored in double figures in a tough loss to WI RAP.

2021 G/F –Arshveer Mattu – 3RD Coast Bucks
Mattu is a big wing who led the scoring punch for the Bucks in a 1 point win over WI Dynasty.  He put up 19 points and they needed everyone to get the win on opening night.

2020 F Aiden Flynn – WI Rap NY2LA
Flynn scored the ball well in last week’s Next Level Invitational and picked up right where he left off on Thursday.  He hit 3’s, got out in transition and showed touch in the mid-range which makes the 6-5 wing a priority target for schools looking for talent on the perimeter.   He finished with 19 in the opener.

2020 F Carter Gilmore –Phenom University EYBL
Gilmore was as active as we have seen him with tip back dunks and strong finishes at the rim in Phenom’s dominating win Thursday.  He rebounded well and showed he is ready to take the next step in his progression.

DAY 1 SLEEPERS
2021 F Grant Asman – Pack Attack

The 6-9 forward showed skill and a desire to defend in helping Pack Attack start out with a win.  He looks to be a stretch 4 with his ability to put it on the floor and range on his shot.  He is an intriguing prospect going forward.

2020 F Justin Taphorn – Illinois Irish Elite NY2LA
Taphorn has continued to play well whenever we watch.  The kid is a lights out shooter who put up 16 points in a tough win for the Irish.   His stroke and range are skills colleges need and I can see Taphorn helping stretch a defense at the next level.
