Nate Shockey of York High School (IL) and Breakaway Basketball has committed to the University of North Dakota and head coach Paul Sather. The 6’3” senior point guard announced his commitment on twitter Thursday afternoon. The commitment comes after he took his only official visit to the Grand Forks campus at the beginning of September.
When we asked Shockey why he chose North Dakota he told us “they really embrace everyone as family and the community support is unreal. I was blown away on my visit to say the least.” Other reasons he mentioned when picking North Dakota were coaching staff, players, and facilities. “As soon as I knew that North Dakota was a four-year place for me I jumped on it.”
The guard picked North Dakota over offers from Div. 1 Albany, as well as Div. 2 Lewis University, University of Indianapolis, and Michigan Tech. North Dakota offered Shockey at the end of June after his strong performances with his high school team at the Riverside Brookfield and Ridgewood Shootouts.
Shockey emerged as a Div. 1 prospect with his strong performance this summer. He has good size for a point guard at 6’3” and has the ability to score on all three levels. In addition to his scoring, Shockey distributes the ball just as well.
“I hope to make an impact as a freshman and work my way into a key player for the team” Shockey mentioned on how he will fit in with the team. Look for the guard to have a big senior year at York and make an immediate impact when he gets to North Dakota next fall.
