One of the more impressive performances during all the holiday tournaments has been Ryan Weir. Weir is a 6’3” senior forward at Pontiac High School (IL). While undersized, Weir has a strong build and has plenty of skill to his game.
In the first round of the Pontiac Tournament, his squad was matched up against Simeon and Weir did not disappoint. In just 25 minutes of play, Weir managed to score 27 points on a remarkable 10-11 shooting from the field. Even with plenty of defensive attention all around him from Simeon, Weir went to work around the basket. He uses his strength and wide frame well to bully defenders around the basket to get himself good looks. As well he has great touch around the basket, plus knocked down his only three-point attempt of the game.
When asked how it is to play for the host school in the prestigious Pontiac Holiday Tournament, Weir told us “the holiday tournament is surreal. Getting to play teams that are in and out of state and national rankings every week is something special. It’s something very special to the community and the team as well.”
So far Weir has generated much interest from division three and NAIA schools. Some of the schools he has been in touch with include Dominican, Governors State, Illinois Wesleyan, Lakeland, Loras, MacMurray, Olivet Nazarene, and a few others. When speaking about if any of those schools standout Weir mentioned “Loras has a great campus and coaching staff. Parkland is close to home, coaches are constantly in touch. MacMurray is intriguing with aau coach Josh Herberling being there.” Weir is planning on visiting Lakeland and Parkland soon while he has already taken visits to Illinois Wesleyan, Loras, MacMurray, and Olivet Nazarene. He added that he would like to visit as many schools as he can.
“I want a high academic school that I can see myself being there for the next chapter in my life,” Weir stated on what he wants for his future college. The senior seems to be in rush to make any type of college decision. He would still like to see some more schools and is looking towards after the season before narrowing down his long list of suitors.
