Daniel Savageau is a 2020 Senior guard from Osakis High School in Osakis, Minnesota. The 2020 guard has been the starting point guard since Freshman year, and the leader since Sophomore year.  In the 2018-19 regular season Osakis lost only one game, the second to last game. They went into Sections comfortable they wouldn't be tested but 2018-19 season ended unexpectedly in Sections to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 59-55.

After the season ended, Savageau played AAU with the Minnesota Comets DLR team. This competition got Savageau ready for 2019-20. He's averaging 21.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.3 steals through 11 games while shooting 39.3% from 3.

I caught up to Savageau this week to chat about the high school season, AAU, and his current recruitment…

RS: How's the season going so far?
DS: Seasons going well so far. We have won some close games while pulling them out at the end. That’s what we do best.

RS: Not too many teams regardless of class lose just a couple games in 2 seasons, what have you guys learned from last year's loss in sections?
DS: Coming off a great season last year, we didn’t really go into playoffs with a chip on our shoulder. This year we have much more to prove and nothing to lose. We are playing some of our best basketball right now.

RS: From last year to this year what do you think is the biggest difference in your game?
DS: Confidence. Playing with the Comets over the summer has really boosted my confidence competing against some of the best players in the Midwest. This has carried on to HS b-ball and has really showed. Also expanding my shooting range has opened up the lane for me to drive more often.

RS: Was it just the teams you were playing against while with the Comets or having teammates competing with you?
DS: Both. Practices were just like games. We were very competitive and that got me and us better as a team. We were always getting after each other to perform our best as well.

RS: I know you play football too. Which sport are planning to play in college? How's the recruitment going? Do you have offers?
DS: Yes, played football, but track I would say would be my second sport. I’ve had some interest and phone calls about running track as well. I’m going to stick with playing basketball in college though. I have the most passion and commitment for the game. Right now I have an offer from Valley City (ND). Other than that a lot of schools have been contacting me and it has been a long and fun process.
