With all the talent at the NY2LA Swish N’ Dish this past weekend, one part was just not nearly enough for the top performers of the tournament. While there are plenty of other players that could make a real argument to be a part of this list, here is the second group of ten that received the honors.
Jamar Lampley – 2023 – G – Cream City Chosen
Lampley is a quick and shifty guard with good playmaking ability. He moves very well with the ball to get into the defense to distribute it out but can also score it well himself. He shoots the ball very well from the outside, knocking down five threes in a single game.
Pete Moe – 2023 – F – Team Rose
A strong and high energy forward that had a tremendous weekend for himself. Game after game he showed the ability to contribute in so many ways. Moe can score it strong around the basket, he can step out and hit a three, is a force on the glass, put the ball on the floor, and more. A player that should be on many college coaches list to see this spring.
Milan Momcilovic – 2023 – F – Phenom University
The forward just has an incredible skill level to be able to score at a high level in a variety of ways. He is an incredibly difficult matchup at 6’8” with his abilities. While he was a knockdown shooter all weekend from three, he can just as easily beat defenders down around the basket or in the mid-post. There are few players with his all-around offensive skill set.
Drew Scharnowski – 2023 – SF – Breakaway Basketball
One of a handful of true breakout players over the weekend. The junior has good size at 6’8” and there is much to like about his game. He has good offensive ability as he can spot up from three, score it well in the mid-post and inside, plus put the ball on the floor. Just as important he is a quality defender that can match up with multiple positions well with size and agility plus was big on the glass all weekend.
Matt Schmainda – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Swing
The junior is such a consistent player that is always doing so much for his team. The guard plays under control and has good feel. He played with good versatility during the tournament both handling the ball and scoring it well. He was hitting jumpers both off the catch and dribble as well to passing it rebounding the ball well.
Luther Smith – 2023 – PG – MTXE Premier
Smith was one of the better scoring guards over the course of tournament. He moves well with the ball and can really get to the basket but also shot it well from deep. Smith plays with good intensity and has a nice ability to create separation to get his own shots from three and in the mid-range. A smart player that can just take whatever his given to him and score it well in a variety of ways.
Trey Steinhilber – 2023 – G – Team GRIII
A skilled scorer that can also distribute it well. He came up clutch in the biggest of moments hitting a game winning buzzer beating three during the tournament. Over the course of multiple games, he showed a good ability to both spot up for threes as well as take it strong to the basket. He has good feel and sees the court well.
Asa Thomas – 2023 – SF – Illinois Wolves
A lengthy 6’7” wing with a pure jumper. He has great form on his jumper and can get it off with ease whenever he wants with his size. More than just a shooter though, Thomas can defend multiple positions, battles on the glass, and handle the ball.
George Washington III – 2023 – PG – All Ohio Red
The Ohio State commit is a bouncy guard with a lot of abilities to his game. He is a knockdown shooter from the outside but is also a quality playmaker off the dribble. One of the top shooters of the tournament with great form and a quick release.
Sonny Wilson – 2023 – PG – The Family
Without surprise, Wilson showed his ability as one of the most talented point guards amongst the loaded field of players. He has all the point guard skills in addition to being a skilled scorer. Wilson is smart playmaker with a good ability to create for himself. He moves extremely well with the ball and is incredibly tough to defend with all he can do on the floor.
