As seniors from around the region continue to make their college commitments, the newest from the weekend is JR Lukenbill. The 6’5” guard of Burlington High School and the Wisconsin Swing announced his commitment to Northern Michigan University on Sunday.

The commitment for Lukenbill comes just over a week after the senior received his scholarship offer from the division two program and head coach Matt Majkrzak. He was offered while visiting the Marquette, Michigan campus. He had also received a scholarship offer from Concordia St. Paul this fall. Plus, he had interest from other division two programs and athletic offers from multiple division three programs.

After his recent visit to Northern Michigan and receiving the offer, Lukenbill previously said “My visit to Northern Michigan was awesome. I had a lot of fun and felt comfortable right away when I got there. Everyone including the players were welcoming and easy to talk to.”

Northern Michigan is landing a versatile guard with good size. During his junior season he averaged 16.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, leading Burlington High School in each of the three statistics.

His coach from the Wisconsin Swing, Matt Bredesen had very high praise when speaking about Lukenbill. “He had a really great spring, summer. He is a freak athlete... JR was a huge part of our success also, was really consistently good all season,” Bredesen said.

The Wildcats have continued to recruit the state of Wisconsin very effectively. Currently, eight of the seventeen players on their roster hail from Wisconsin. Lukenbill joins Cooper LePage, Riley Brooks, and Brandon Trill in their 2023 recruitment class.
