With the high school season underway, we will be coming to you weekly with 10 things that caught my attention in the previous week of play.

Jaylen Woodland – Combo Guard - Audubon Technology High School – 2023 – Woodland exploded for 48 points on 54% shooting to open his season this week. He added 6 steals. Woodland is new to the MPS City Conference this season after transferring to Audubon due to his former high school closing last school year. Audubon should be the favorite to win the City Conference Red division and Woodland will be key to making that happen.

Kon Knueppel - Combo Guard – Wisconsin Lutheran – 2024 – K2 as he is known in the basketball community has been on a tear since last spring on the travel ball circuit. The time off between July and November did nothing to cool that off. In 2 wins last week, K2 averaged 27.5 PPG and 15 RPG. He did all this on 68% shooting overall and 60% from range. I know it ‘s early but Knueppel looks poised to lead Wisconsin Lutheran on a deep March run.

JaQuan Johnson – Point Guard – Pius XI – 2024 – Baby Baron Davis is off to an amazing start leading his Pius Popes to an early 4-0 record. Last week alone, he averaged 27 PPG and also dished out 6 assists per game. The road gets a little tougher this week as Johnson will lead his popes into battles against Wisconsin Lutheran, Dominican and Pewaukee.

Milan Momcilovic – Hybrid Post – Pewaukee – 2023 – Another young man coming off a huge spring and summer who is continuing his stellar play. Milan is shouldering a bit more of a load as Pewaukee awaits the return of star point guard Nick Janowski. In 2 wins last week, he averaged 31 PPG and 9 RPG, while hitting 8 threes. The Iowa State recruit appears ready to have Pewaukee competing for a 3rd straight gold ball this season.

Dupree Fletcher Jr. – Point Guard – Carmen Northwest – 2024 – The son of former AP player of the year Dupree Fletcher, DF Jr., might be just as good as his dad was 20 years ago. The smooth guard scored 26 and 20 points respectively in 2 wins last week, with one of wins coming against arch rival Milwaukee Academy of Science in a sold-out gym at the Terry Porter Classic. Carmen Northwest is competing in the MPS City Conference Gold division and in my opinion is the co-favorite with Milwaukee Hamilton.

Kai Rogers – Center – Wauwatosa West – 2025 – standing 6-10 with a massive wingspan, Rogers already has a ton of high major offers. Last week the big fella averaged 15 PPG, 12 RPG and 3 blocks per game. Having that defensive presence allows his guards to pressure the ball knowing that their almost 7-Footer has their backs. Rogers will have to continue to play at an elite level as Tosa West plays in the rugged Greater Metro conference.

Latrevion Fenderson – Hybrid Guard – The Prairie School – 2025 – Fenderson looks to be back healthy after fighting through a few injuries the past few seasons. After spending his freshman season at Racine St. Catherine’s, he transferred over to Prairie and is making an immediate impact. During his teams 2 victories last week, Fenderson had games of 27 & 14 and another game of 17 & 11. He did this while shooting at a 63% rate.

Jaden Guyon – Combo Guard – Whitefish Bay – 2023 – I’ve watched this kid develop of the years as he used to be my neighbor. I would be outside cutting my grass and he would be running up and down the street working on his handle and form shooting in the back alley. That work has been paying off as Guyton averaged 32 PPG in two tough loses, one of them a close lost to conference champion Homestead. His shooting splits are currently sitting at 55-40-78, which is exceptional at the high school level.

Cal Klesmit – Hybrid Guard – Neenah – 2023 – After missing all last season with a knee injury, Cal is back on a mission. In the Rockets 2 wins last week, Klesmit is averaging 32 PPG on 54% shooting. He is also contributing 7.5 RPG while being the floor leader for his team.

Markell Webb – Combo Guard – Dominican – 2024 – This was special for me. Webb was my starting point guard on the Dominican junior varsity team back in the 2020-2021 season. I put the ball in his hands from day 1 and allowed him to grow from his mistakes. Webb exploded for 29 points and 10 rebounds, connecting on 4 threes in Dominican’s win over Milwaukee Lutheran. While that roster is full of guys who will get the headlines, Webb will be the glue that propels them to a potential deep run come March.
