There are a lot of names in the Midwest that have come to play this high school season and are having tremendous seasons early on. Here are several of the players that have boosted their game the most.

David Douglas – 2023 – G – Yorkville Christian High School IL – Breakaway Basketball

In the early season, Douglas had been one of the top guards in Illinois. While he had a stellar junior season in helping Yorkville Christian win a state championship, he has continued to grow his game. With former teammate Jaden Schutt now at Duke, Douglas has done his best to fill the scoring void averaging a whopping 35 points per game. This includes a remarkable 51-point game. He holds a trio of division two offers and has continued to garner division one interest.

Tyler Franklin – 2023 – F – Cobden High School IL – Illinois Bears

Franklin has continued to improve throughout his high school career to now culminate in a big senior season so far. He has had one of the best scoring displays of the season with a sensational 57-point game as well to several other big games. The 6’6” senior is one of the top forwards still available in Illinois.

Bristol Lewis – 2023 – G – United Twp. High School IL – MidPro Academy

Lewis is an under the radar guard who has continued to produce throughout his high school career and is flourishing in his senior season now at United Township. The 6’3” combo guard is one of the more impactful and versatile seniors in the area who is averaging 17.7 points, 5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 63% from the field. While he may not have the scoring numbers as some on this list, Lewis can do a bit of everything on the floor to win games having his team out to an 8-1 record.

Amari McCottry – 2024 – G/F – St. Thomas More WI – Power 5

McCottry had a strong sophomore season but is now showing he is one of the top players in all of Wisconsin this season. Right now, the junior wing is averaging 30.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. He has so many tools to his game with his ability to create for himself, athleticism, length, and defensive versatility.

Jon O’Neill – 2024 – PF – Kaukauna High School WI – Wisconsin Blizzard

Over the past couple of years, O’Neill has played productive basketball and continued to flash even greater upside. He is now living up to that upside with a big junior season. The 6’10” forward is averaging a double double currently with 13.5 points and 13 rebounds per game all while shooting 77% from the field.

Cody Schmitz – 2024 – G/F – G-E-T High School WI – Wisconsin Playmakers

Even after a tremendous sophomore season, Schmitz has taken his game to another level in his junior season. In his first game of the year, he already scored his 1,000th career point and has continued to excel from there. Currently he is one of the leading scorers in Wisconsin with 35.5 points per game. The 6’5” wing is much more than a scorer however as he has a well-rounded skill set and plays with good strength and energy.
