As another grassroots season approaches we take a look at 5 prospects in the state of Wisconsin who are primed to see their recruitments blow up this Spring.

2024 6’7 PF MJ Stackhouse
There is an argument to be made that no player in the state of Wisconsin improved more over the last year than MJ Stackhouse out of Kenosha. After struggling to find consistency as a sophomore, Stackhouse took some big steps forward for Phenom University during the 2022 grassroots season, had a breakout performance at NY2LA Junior Showcase Camp in the fall, and carried the momentum into the winter on his way to conference player of the year honors. Stackhouse is a strong and physical lefty forward who is among the most athletic players in the state, with impressive 2-foot bounce to play well above the rim on both ends of the floor. He has really improved his jumpshot and I love his potential as a 2-way stretch big. He can play in pick and pop, runs the floor in transition and has improved his balance and footwork in traffic around the basket. Stackhouse averaged 22 points and 9 rebounds as a Junior and holds an offer from UW-Milwaukee. Currently checking in at #15 in NY2LA Wisconsin 2024 rankings, Stackhouse is primed for a jump into the top 10 in our next update, and should see his recruitment take a similar trajectory this Spring.

2025 6’10 PF Will Garlock
Will Garlock is one of the more intriguing long term prospects in Wisconsin and I expect him to pick up a handful of mid major offers during the spring live periods. At a legit 6’10, Garlock is a mobile forward with good hands and touch around the basket. I love his ability to run the floor, make tough catches in traffic and he has a nice baby hook over his left shoulder. Although not the most explosive athlete, Garlock is fluid, has good footwork at his size and is a quick leaper able to finish above the rim and block shots. I would consider Garlock a better prospect than player at this stage, and would like to see a jump in production after averaging 11.4 points and 5.5 as a sophomore this winter, but he has physical tools that you can't teach and has shown steady improvement over the last year that is enough to buy stock in his recruitment. It is still early, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Garlock get some High Major looks in the next 6-12 months. Currently at #8 in our NY2LA Wisconsin 2025 Rankings, Garlock should bump a few spots when rankings are updated in the next few weeks.

2026 6’4 PG Yusef Gray Jr
Yusef Gray Jr had a huge freshman season this winter, averaging 19 points 6.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists, and will be in the conversation for the #1 spot when we debut our NY2LA Wisconsin 2026 rankings at the end of this month. At 6’4 he has great size at the lead guard spot and moves effortlessly with the ball in his hands, able to use long strides to glide past defenders and get into the paint. Gray was a bit inconsistent as a jump shooter during the high school season, but has good mechanics and is able to create space off the dribble to get clean looks at the rim, and can operate in the midrange game with soft touch. Defensively I love Gray's potential as a plus defender, he has quick feet to stay in front of smaller guards and uses his length and instincts to play passing lanes off the ball. Gray has the size, physical tools and skill set that looks the part of a future division one guard, and I expect him to pick up his first offers this spring as he gets the chance to play in front of college coaches with a very talented Phenom University 15U group on the Nike EYBL circuit.

2025 6’2 SG Jamarion Batemon
Jamarion Batemon would get my vote for the best shooter in Wisconsin’s 2025 class, and he holds an early offer from Grambling. Currently checking in at #9 in our 2025 Wisconsin Rankings, Batemon will move up at least a few spots in the next update and should see his offer list expand this Spring playing with Power 5 on the Adidas 3SSB. He has efficient mechanics on his jumper with great touch and can make shots from deep off the dribble, in catch and shoot, and under pressure. In one of the best individual performances of the winter, Batemon scored 39 points and made 11 threes in a matchup with Nick Janowski and state champion Pewaukee HS. Batemon has the size and handle to play on or off the ball, but is at his best hunting his shot and providing floor spacing. Defenders must stay attached at all times allowing his teammates easier opportunities to score in the half court. Batemon is at his best in the biggest moments and is one of the those kids that just seems to have an "it factor". As a sophomore Batemon averaged 20.5 points and made 83 threes in 25 games for Milwaukee Academy of Science.

2025 6’3 G Zach Kinziger
Zach Kinziger is a player we saw a lot of last spring and summer playing with Team Herro, and he has taken some big steps forward over the last 6 months, both in his game and his physical development. Kinziger looks to have grown at least 2-3 inches and although officially listed at 6’2, the eye test says he has stretched out closer to 6’3/6’4. Kinziger averaged 15.4 points 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists as a sophomore while also making 51 threes and being named conference Defensive Player of the Year for a De Pere team that completed an undefeated 30-0 season with a state championship. Kinziger does all the little things to impact winning, can guard multiple positions on the perimeter and shot over 43% from deep on the year. I like his versatility offensively as he can initiate offense as a primary ball handler, but also is comfortable playing off the ball, coming off of screens and attacking closeouts to get into the paint. Kinziger holds an offer from the previous staff at UW-Green Bay and I expect him to be a hot name with mid-major coaches this spring, with potential for some high major interest. Kinziger is currently ranked #7 in NY2LA Wisconsin 2025 Rankings.
