One of the more consistent and impactful players over the past two seasons on the NY2LA Association has made their college commitment. Over the weekend, Matt Schmainda announced his commitment to Michigan Tech.

The 6’2” guard of Brookfield East High School and the Wisconsin Swing chose the Huskies over his other scholarship offer from Hillsdale College plus interest from a number of other programs. “Michigan Tech is a fantastic fit for me because of the people there,” he said about his decision. Also saying about his pick, “The coaching staff and players have worked to create a great culture that has set them up for success. I just want to do what I can to take the team to the next level and be a part of the whole experience.”

The commitment comes after Schmainda took a visit to Michigan Tech earlier this winter. “It was awesome,” he said about the trip. “The coaches were always completely honest with me, explained how well I would fit into their program. Additionally, the guys were great, welcoming, and fun to be around. Knowing a lot of the guys already made the experience even more enjoyable.”

In what was an injury plagued senior campaign, Schmainda still was a force when he was on the court this season. He averaged a team high 18 points a game and played a key role down the stretch and in the postseason helping Brookfield East reach the sectionals.

“Overall, I feel with my work ethic, toughness, and leadership, I can definitely help Tech reach the next level.”
