One of the fastest rising players in Wisconsin’s 2025 class currently is Drew Murphy. Over the past few months following a grassroots season in which he was named to the NY2LA Association 16U first team playing with the Wisconsin Swing, he has been able to earn his first few scholarship offers.
Back in July, Northern Michigan was the first school to offer the 6’5” wing of Verona Area High School. Since then, Michigan Tech and Winona State have both also offered the junior. The Winona State offer came earlier this month when he visited the Minnesota school. “It was great,” Murphy said about the visit. “Coaches, players, and the campus are really nice.”
“All three schools seem like a family atmosphere and somewhere I could see myself fitting in and making an impact on the court. I really like all three coaches and their styles of play as well,” Murphy said about the three schools to have already offered him. In addition to his offers, he is being recruited by several other division two programs in addition to starting to appear on some division one coaches’ radars. Concordia St. Paul, Missouri S&T, Sioux Falls, and South Dakota are amongst these schools.
Last year as a sophomore, Murphy averaged 19.2 points to earn himself first team all-conference honors. For his upcoming junior season, Murphy is looking to “keep working on my weaknesses of my game and become a more complete player.” He is also looking to help his team to a conference championship and a deep tournament run. Murphy and Verona Area High School will get their season started up against Milwaukee Riverside on Tuesday.
