Logan Van Essen is a true “Gym Rat” in every sense some may call it a labor of love.  The 6 foot guard from Illiana Christian (IN) has put in countless hours of work on his craft and as they say, “Practice makes perfect”.

Illiana Christian is new to Indiana having just moved from across the border in Illinois 12 miles to Dyer (IN).  The growing enrollment and the need for larger more modern facilities prompted the move in 2018.  New scene same results for Mr. Van Essen as he can flat-out play and carries the same work ethic in the classroom boasting a GPA of 3.83 taking honors courses.  He wishes to pursue either business or engineering while in college.

This season the “stat-stuffer” is putting up some massive numbers scoring 24ppg 4rpg and 3spg.  Accolades are abound for this crafty junior: all-tournament team Kankakee Valley Christmas Tournament averaging 25ppg, MPV of Seneca Thanksgiving Tournament breaking a tournament scoring record averaging a whopping 30.4 points-per-game in the process.

Last evening, his squad was in a dog-fight against Covenant Christian when Logan reached into his bag-of-tricks late in the game.  A smooth cross-over dribble to the top of the key drew a foul while knocking down a huge 3-pointer on his way to a typical 23 point performance and the win.  “That was special,” Van Essen said. “That’s the shot I’ve been looking for.”

This spring Logan will continue playing grassroots with Indiana GAME where he has led the team in scoring the past 2 seasons.  He has college interest from: Trinity Christian, Calvin University and Hope College.  His great knowledge of the game, high-motor and scoring ability while making others better around him promise for a bright future at the next level.
