One of the more popular 2023 guards in the entire Midwest this spring has been Luther Smith Jr. The 6’1” junior has showcased his tremendous scoring ability all spring playing with MTXE Premier. This includes being named co-offensive MVP at the Grassroots Showcase in Louisville during the second live period in April.

When talking about his play this spring with MTXE Premier, Smith said “This spring has been extremely fun for me. I feel that we have a great group who’s willing to compete against anybody and a great coach who has a competitive spirit as well, which has impacted the success we’ve encountered so far.”

Even after a monster junior year in which Smith 22.2 points per game at Sussex Hamilton High School (WI), he has only continued to grow from there. To date, Louisiana Monroe is the lone offer for Smith. Though this may change soon as he has a very long list of visits scheduled soon. In the coming weeks he will be taking visits to Austin Peay, Belmont, Illinois State, Lipscomb, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, and Tennessee Tech.

“I would describe my game as smooth. I feel like I do a good job of playing at my own pace as well as making good reads offensively, whether if it’s creating opportunities for myself or for my teammates,” Smith said describing his own game. Tournament after tournament this spring Smith has displayed a great scoring ability with the ball in his hands. He is a gifted playmaker with a versatile scoring ability who can especially get to the basket and create for himself from the outside.
