Matthew Schmainda recently picked up his first scholarship offer. The offer for the 6’2” shooting guard of Brookfield East High School and the Wisconsin Swing came from Hillsdale College. He is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 45.8% from beyond the arc.

The offer came a couple days following the juniors visit to the campus in Hillsdale, Michigan. “The visit was a lot of fun. I love the coaches and culture at Hillsdale. Along with the high-quality academics and the fantastic support system there,” Schmainda said about the trip. While there are many things he likes about the school, the one he mentioned is “the people are authentic and real. They genuinely care about you as a person.”

While Hillsdale may be his only offer, there are colleges from multiple levels recruiting Schmainda. Columbia, Michigan Tech, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh are amongst the schools showing interest in him currently.

Over the last two years with the Wisconsin Swing, Schmainda has continued to show he is one of the most consistent players on the NY2LA Association. “Playing with Swing has been awesome. I love the guys on the team and how we push each other every day. We also share the ball and play as a team,” he said. He is a high IQ guard with a versatile game as well to being a fierce competitor who should continue to attract further college interest. “I want college coaches to know that I am a winner,” Schmainda stated.
